Ocampo first gained fame as a courageous young prosecutor who co-led the team that brought down the generals responsible for Argentina’s “Dirty War,” which principally targeted young dissidents for abduction, torture, and execution. (His role in that case is the subject of the 2022 film Argentina 1985, a 2023 Golden Globe winner and Oscar nominee for Best International Film.) He went on to serve as the Federal Prosecutor of Buenos Aires where he undertook groundbreaking anti-corruption investigations and prosecutions. From there, he created and led an Argentine law firm advancing a civil prosecution multi-disciplinary model (combining legal, investigative, and forensic accounting expertise) combatting fraud on private victims. In 2003, he became the first Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, investigating and pursuing cases including those targeting Gaddafi of Libya, Bashir of Sudan, and John Kony of the Ugandan child soldiers case. After the ICC, Ocampo served as the Global Practice Counsel to the law firm of Getnick & Getnick, LLP, where he maintains a close connection to this day. Presently, he is actively pursuing international human rights cases as a private lawyer and he is affiliated with the University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts, where he teaches film focusing on War, Crimes, and Justice.
