All News June 25, 2024

On June 15, 2024, the Southern Christian Leadership Conference of Southern California (SCLC-SC) awarded Getnick Law Managing Partner Neil Getnick, Chateau Marmont owner Andre Balazs, and UNITE HERE!  Local 11 Union Co-President Kurt Peterson with its esteemed Beloved Community Award arising from their work first achieving a collective bargaining agreement and then creating an economic and social justice alliance amongst the hotel, union, and SCLC-SC.  See video.

Neil also had the honor of presenting SCLC-SC President, Pastor William D. Smart Jr., with a surprise Beloved Community Award for his crucial role in fostering open communication, leading to a mutual understanding and commitment amongst all.

The award was presented to Neil at the SCLC-SC Liberation Gathering of Beloved Community: “For your Dedication and Commitment to Building A Beloved Community that is Fair, Equal and Just to All People.  We are Better because of your work, and all embracing Radical Idea of Unity.”

In the spirit of community, the event was held at the Chateau Marmont to honor the past and future collaborative work between the hotel, union, and SCLC-SC.  Guests were served wine from Chateau Ste Michelle, the first winery in Washington State to sign a union contract with United Farm Workers.

In receiving his award, Neil Remarked:

As we gather this evening, we do so in the spirit of the future, an alliance of the Chateau Marmont, UNITE HERE! 11 and the Southern Christian Leadership Conference of Southern California joining together as brothers and sisters advancing the cause of social and economic justice.  And that is something to be celebrated.

Update: on July 10, 2024, the New York Law Journal selected Neil as an individual finalist for its 2024 Innovation Awards in connection with his work to achieve the collective bargaining agreement and the subsequent alliance between the hotel, union, and SCLC-SC to continue a campaign for social and economic justice.  On July 15, the Corporate Crime Reporter published an interview with Neil regarding the collective bargaining agreement and his views on business integrity.
