Partner Margaret Finerty Attends Invitation-Only Roundtable with SEC Senior Enforcement Officials
Partner Margaret Finerty attended an invitation-only roundtable discussion at New York University Law School sponsored by the NYU Program on Corporate Compliance and Enforcement. The event was attended by current and former senior enforcement officials from the Securities and Exchange Commission (“SEC”) as well as academics and practitioners in the field, including attorneys who represent whistleblowers. Participants discussed corporate enforcement policy and potential reforms, including self-reporting and cooperation, disgorgement, non-prosecution agreements, and compliance monitors, among other topics.
In addition to Ms. Finerty’s practice in federal and state whistleblower cases, and the IRS and SEC whistleblower programs, she has led many prominent government monitorships on the federal, state and local levels. Monitorships are a useful tool to the government in ensuring that needed corporate reform is implemented on a sustained basis and becomes embedded in the business’ culture.
